HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU BECAME A FAN OF THE NEW YORK JETS?
I was about 7-years of age. I was just getting into sports. My dad, an avid fan of the DALLAS COWBOYS, let me watch the JETS one sunday in 1968. It was the year the JETS won the AFL Championship & went on to win SUPERBOWL III.
SO IT WAS DUE TO JOE NAMATH THAT YOU BECAME A JETS FAN?
No, it was DON MAYNARD. I could not believe that anyone that small could slice his way past so many huge defensemen and could still maintain that speed. Years later, on the 75th anniversary of the NFL I was in Canton. The NFL hall of fame finally did him justice by placing his memorabilia before NAMATH'S.
HOW DID YOU BECOME BAUMERJET?
About 15-years ago, I was working for a construction supply company. At the same time another "DAVID BAUM," from West Orange, was making a name for himself on the grid-iron. A few of the guys I worked for were from West Orange & when the Bergen Record ran an article on young Mr. Baum, they used the nickname "Baumer."
Well, that name caught on & I became "BAUMER" as well.
When I became a JETS Season Ticket Holder in 1992 & the ability to get on the internet in 1998; It just became natural for this "Baumer" to become "BAUMERJET."
WHY DID YOU CREATE THE UNOFFICIAL NYJ FAN FORUM?
I had always envisioned the possibility to create a news magazine dedicated to the fan & not just the teams they root for. In 1998, no one else had that kind of vision.
I was lucky enough (This had to have a cosmic relation to it) to win an old 16 MB 1.2 GB DIGITAL computer from my place of business. I joined AOL & BAUMERJET'S UNOFFICIAL NYJ FAN FORUM began publication in December 1998.
